QUOTE(VortMax @ May 7 2006, 10:08 PM) *
Hey guys and gals. This is a quick one time post from me. Once I post this I am outta here for good.

Thanks for letting me back in for a brief time Sandy.

I made a terrible mistake last year. That mistake was giving more than just one or two additional staff members admin access to the board. I gave in to several here and went against my better judgment and once again my better judgement was right. I have come to the conclusion that the board cannot function as a group at the top trying to run everything. I should have kept my control over the most important admin functions and left the moderating to the rest of the staff, except for the one or two others to handle new memberships etc. and perhaps the guys doing the board templates etc. Every ship needs a captin. This board is no different. The state that it's in now is one in distress and it will sink in its present form.

I have been frequently told by other staff members that I am not aware of things that go on here because I leave to often and when I do come back I try to change things. Well here is my reason for this. It's THE STAFF. I leave simply because I cannot deal with some of you on a regular basis. For something that started out as fun turned into a nightmare for me. I wanted to be here often and participate but dealing with some gets to be too much. Often times my nerves were shot to hell because of some here. I would never take my breaks away if it had not been for some staff members. My personal connection to the board was severed for good a few months ago when my last nerve gave way when I was doing what I knew was the right thing and that was to completely remove a cancer from the board in **********.

I have to personally thank Ian for opening my eyes and ultimatly getting me to face the reality that is more than one admin at the top can't work. Ian, your a decent guy and you have a bright future, but you have some serious growing up to do. I hope your RECENT introduction into the workforce will allow you to work better with others, you have some strange nepolianic thing going on and you need to try to get a handle on it before it gets you into real trouble though. I hold no grudges against you Ian, but to be perfectly honest, you were the last straw here for me but please don't expect any more favors from me either so please don't list me as a personal reference because I cannot in good conscience speak to anyone about you.

Nan, I have gotten your emails and sorry I have not responded to them. I know you mean well but my disconnect from the staff here is an important part of my transition away from easternuswx.com. So please don't think this is something personal against you.

Randy, I briefly spoke with Sandy tonight and she said that you had me on a list as an attendie for the conference, thanks, but no thanks. I have to respectfully decline my invite to the event. Like I told you before, I am sure it will be a blast, you will do a fine job.

Back when I left a few months ago I had a long message I was about to post about me leaving but I thought better of it but the gist of it was that I had a tough decision to make. Leave the board like I did or take control again of what is my creation, make things right the way I think they should be in order to right the ship, take control of the reigns so to speak and piss some of you off in the process. Go through the "I am leaving" bit from some of you out in the public and just have a whole other mess on the hands of the staff.
I was even asked by some staff members to do just that and take control again of what is obviously a failing venture, but I choose not to do it because the disruption would have been emmense because of some of the personalities here. In the end I obviously decided to just give in and drop it.

Part of me is hurt inside so bad, I see the board running an old, serious security risk version of the software, and part of me wants to jump in, start working on things again etc. Upgrade the service with a new addtional server so it can handle 1000's of users, enjoying chat with you guys and just goofing off. But I just can't do it any longer.

I will probably come back and browse like I said in my last message here when winter approaches but thats about it.

I have enough money to keep the board server up and running til the end of 2007. Once the cash is gone I am not sure what I am going to do. I won't ask the membership here for any more money through donations. (Scott, can you please remove the paypal link at the bottom of the page.) I have been approached in recent months about selling the board and I am entertaining some of these offers. But nothing like this will happen until the end of 2007 when the operating funds run dry.

Randy and Sandy, you have my phone number and email. If you need to contact me for anything please don't hesitate to call. I have been extremely busy with work lately so if I don't answer right away, I WILL get back to you.

Those of you trying to reach me via MSN chat and cannot it is because I have everyone from the board blocked (Randy, I had to delete your account outright because of your MSN names and I have three people looking at it now). I did this because one of my new contracts requires that MSN chat be open so that I can receive messages from my client. Through out the day I would receive instant messages and it would affect how we deal with this new clients instant messages (one of us here has to get to them very quickly.)

I hope that this message at least answers some of the questions that some of you might have had about the direction my life is now taking. I was not going to come back and post but Sandy wanted me too so here I am.

Take care everyone, enjoy the conference in July and I hope you all stay well and safe.

I think anyone who reads this message will see that Eastern is indeed in trouble, as some have tried to suggest recently.

I have decided to resign from the staff there, in hopes that the ship can right itself without me aboard. It seems that past issues between Marcus and myself cannot be resolved. To be clear, I have never done anything to him other than treat him as a friend. I would delve deeper, but I am sure people will make up their minds on who to trust based on long standing views prior to this incident.

As far as the board goes, I only hoped for the best. In my mind it was his board, but I also recognized the many fine people who helped him build it. Just today, I was telling Randy and Matt that I would stick with the board until it fell apart because it meant so much to me. After reading the post by Marcus this evening, I was reminded of the problems that have been lurking for the past several months. No matter how much the rest of the staff wants to see Eastern succeed, it cannot do so with a main Admin who no longer cares.

I will still post at Eastern from time to time, and I believe the staff there will do just fine in my absence. I’m looking forward to the conference, and hope it is as successful as last years.

damn...

I like Marcus and I dont know what it is like to be in his shoes, but he always blames everyone else for problems and never takes ownership himself.....

maybe someone should start a new board....

Why put time and effort into Eastern when it is in an uncertain holding pattern for a year and a half

Marcus should sell the board

Damn.

Not knowing the innerworkings of the place I don't know the whys, whats, and hows this could have been prevented, but reading the above is like a punch in the gut.

I never dreamed that Eastern could be on the downward slope of its life cycle anytime soon or that founders would be stepping away like this.

It's sad.

I don't normally want to air dirty laundry of the board, but I have stayed silent on the issue too long.

I wish we could have had someone leading that wasn't insane, but we lucked out. Oh well... life goes on. wink.gif

Considering the members are the lifeblood of that forum, and have funded it... I think they have a right to know what is going on with the server that they bought and paid to run in the hopes that the board would continue to thrive and grow.

I also hate losing. If the members have the commitment to stay with the core staff no matter what we will pull a rabbit out of the hat. I can assure you of that.

IMO....it is foolhardy to trash the brand.....The brand is a good one......Marcus needs to sell the board ASAP

18 moinths is a long time for people to be hamstrung with little ability to do much more than pin threads

Either Marcus accepts a good faith offer for the board, or people should consider a spinoff

Considering I'm a newbie I don't know much of the history with Marcus -- nor do I want to at this point. I'll also keep my opinion of Marcus to myself.

I do think that if we work together we can make things work. That's what will be the key -- working together and figuring out a best course plan of attack.

Which staff member though is going to play the role of the rabit and which staff member will play the role of the magician remains to be seen. bike.gif

You and Bob should grow some balls. It's a bit loserish to leave and then air dirty laundry. First of all you still hold a moderator mask even though you say you delmoted yourself.

Instead of trying to be a martyr maybe you could work WITH us instead of AGAINST us. But whatever.

Trust me, this is the last thing I wanted to do. I was just saying yesterday (in conversations with Matt and Randy) how I would go down with the ship if needed, because I felt like I had poured my heart into helping make the board a success and because I wanted the best for the people who post there.

The other staff members have been great, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team of volunteers to share the ride with. I was sincerely looking forward to moving on with the additional 3 that we had just added over there.

This was not just a slap in the face, it was another blow to the gut in a series of many throughout the years. I think I might now understand where Randy was coming from when he and Marcus had their last fallout. To be sure, this has happened in the past between Marcus and myself (back in the chat days – a misunderstanding that blew up). But, I was hoping that kind of thing was done for and we could move on as friends.

Marcus obviously wanted more control, and I really don’t have a problem with that. I would be more than willing to see him come back and take a stand to help keep things running and well-oiled. My hope here is that his real problem is with me, and he will come back now that I am gone. I fear that is not the case, but time will tell. There is absolutely nothing wrong with him wanting control, but he cannot rightfully demand full control when he is only around for short periods of time and has no idea what the pulse of the board is. His duty for the past 12 months or so has been simply to fix problems and come on and treat certain staff members like his children when he feels they have gone out of line. He claims I have some issues, but all I did on the board was change some colors at the request of other staff, and help bring on a few solid moderators. My admin controls were extremely limited, and the only other things I did as admin were updating the portal and advertising the website. If that proves I am a terrible person, so be it.

Marcus is obviously bitter about something and feels the need to make himself more important than he really is. You know, I’m sorry, but a hosting service could replace him in a minute, and there would be more cohesion amongst the staff simply because they could have a say in the direction of the board’s future. As far as him not wanting to be a reference for me… lol, no one ever talked to him. I think my accomplishments speak for themselves.

All this said, I have been feeling like I should leave the board for several weeks now. I have had numerous disagreements with certain staff members, and undoubtedly precipitated certain large arguments. I guess I recently decided that there is little chance that we would ever be able to fully utilize what we had built, and I no longer had a real interest in working on the numerous problems for free.

This was not a rash decision, and the staff at eastern who try to push it off as one are only looking out for the board. I have looked the other way too many times because I loved helping run the board and I didn’t want to stop. This is where their words are coming from. I don’t hold it against them, but I hope they realize why I had to do this.

why should he stay?

Marcus made clear that he has no intention of relinquishing control of the board for 18 months and also made it clear that Ian isnt fit to be an admin.....

Wrong Brain. I like Ian, always have. I just did not agree with some of his decesions in regards to dicipline and leadership. I don't hate anyone that I know of. As a person, I consider Ian a friend.
